If you can expand the picture you will see the red retardant being dropped by the big bomber to the left of the red stuff. There is also a smaller aircraft above on the right.

This one is called the “Bird Dog“, he was circling for quite some time before two bombers showed up. The Bird dog is the one that surveys the situation to let the bombers know which way to approach etc. The Bird Dog plane came in so low on several occasions on his scouting mission that his alarms went off.

We found out about the meaning of the alarm from my husband Phil (who is a pilot). Phil said the alarm is a warning signal to the pilot because he is flying too low without the wheels being down in preparation for a landing. From the time I called in the wildfire until it was out took about 2 1/2 hours.

We think it started by the train tracks up there on the hill. It was quite the air show for all of us on the farm! But wildfires in our area for 3 years in a row is quite enough!!!

PESTO to Add Zesto

Vegan & Gluten-Free Pesto is one of those amazing tasty creations that evolve as your taste and your ingredients list does! I will provide a basic recipe and a listing of options here for you to experiment with. Play with your food, have fun with it and enjoy the practice of eating healthy.

Place the following ingredients into your food processor and blend.

  • 1 bunch of fresh Basil leaves – this is the key ingredient that makes Pesto, pesto.
  • 1 big handful of Chard, Kale, Parsley, or other Green Herbs
  • 1 handful of nuts; Pecans, Almonds, Walnuts, Pine Nuts or a mixture of them
  • 1 handful of Pumpkin Seeds, Sunflower, Hemp or Sesame Seeds (a mixture works great too, try lightly toasting some or all the seeds first as it adds another flavor dimension)
  • 1-2 cloves of Garlic, or a bunch of Garlic Scapes (I prefer to use 1 ½ to 2 tsp. of our Suede Hills Garlic powder, it leaves no after taste in your mouth after you finish eating.)
  • 1 tsp. Pink Himalayan Salt
  • Juice of ½-1 Lemon
  • Drizzle 1-2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil into the food processor while it is mixing, to get your desired consistency.

**For a heartier dish, try adding 1-1 ½ cups of cooked beans.

This is great served over GF (gluten-free) Pasta, or Zucchini Noodles. Try this as a spread on rice cakes or on your Salad or anything else where you would like to add some zip. I have even added it as a topping on some soup.

Get creative!!! Play with your food! Enjoy thinking outside the sand box!

Health and Happiness to you always!
