Is Community on Your Mind?
This topic is far broader than one might first expect.
We have been toying with the idea
of having a few tiny homes on the farm
for a multitude of different reasons.
One of them is to facilitate community
with like-minded and like-hearted people.
Which ultimately results in better
Mental, Emotional, Physical and Spiritual Health
in my opinion!
I have invested a significant amount of time
over the years researching
the pros and cons of community.
I have checked into the different “flavors”
of Intentional Communities
and what basis they have been formed under.
I have even researched ones that have
constitutions,
deep structure and massive physical infrastructure.
There is one in Italy, Damanhur,
which was founded in 1975
and is still going strong today.
The reason this is top of mind and relevant today comes back to Physical Health.
I take you back to a year ago
regarding the necessity of B12
especially as people who have been vegan
for 16 years like Phil and myself.
FYI- We now indulge in eating eggs, a little goat cheese
and for Phil only, sardines, yuck!
So I guess we can only label ourselves as vegetarian now.
So how does community play into this?
It was a dear friend who shared her own intimate story of needing B12 supplementation
for energy as well as iron absorption
on her mostly vegan journey.
She also related how amazing the results have been
with her beloved horses
who needed B12 supplements too!
Community…it was the sharing and caring of this younger woman who is half of Phil’s age
that “pushed” him
to acquiesce to her persistent prodding.
The prodding was strictly out of her
love and care for Phil
as all three of us have in essence been part of
a small community of farmer entrepreneurs.
Just a bit more on the B12 topic.
Our research found that B12 was needed
in the creation of healthy red blood cells
and
to assist with nutritional uptake.
The piece that shocked and surprised me
was finding out that it was needed
to facilitate oxygen uptake & delivery in the cells!
Now that is extremely important!!!
So, it is crucial to not only keep your energy level up
but the biggie to me was in
supplying oxygen to the brain for cognitive function!!
A major important issue for everyone,
especially as we age.
So yes, community is there for you no matter what, even to prod you into looking deeper
into options that you had ruled out.
That is because you have relationship with these people and you know that they are
looking out for your best interest.
I have found that many of the people I have come across in an intentional community
are single and over the age of 60!
That surprised me, as I thought that it would be
the younger generations that would
embrace living in community.
As it turns out,
the more mature you are and have
“been there and done that”
seems to open you to exploring the alternatives.
A place to contribute to and allow your gifts to flow.
These people have the financial ability
to live a traditional lifestyle.
Yet it is their desire to be a part of something bigger
yet more connected at the same time.
I will keep you posted as we continue to explore the options for community.
p.s.
As many of you know we are part of
an off-grid ex-pat community in Belize.
This has opened my eyes to
the many advantages of intentional community
AND
the pitfalls to watch out for too!
Stay Alkaline my friends
and make sure to have your
B12 checked
the next time you have blood work done.
Both are crucial to the oxygen level in your cells
and thus your brain!!!
And that means a longer, happier, healthier life for you!
