An Interesting Turn of Events
Where to begin?
For years now I have been sharing
one on one
with folks about the underbelly
of the Canadian Certified Organic REGIME’S structure.
For one example,
how it is possible to Certify as Organic
white chemically processed stevia extract
sold in “health food” stores
legally and ethically as an ORGANIC product?
It is well known that the sweet aspect of the stevia is often
extracted from the plant with hexane
or other chemical processes
to turn a naturally green plant
into a white super-concentrated powder or liquid.
It is NOT natural or organic
in the true sense of the words.
(FYI~ they can certify it as organic
because the FILLER is what they claim is the organic aspect due to the fact that the filler is 95% or more
of the contents and the
Poisoned
(In My Humble Opinion)
stevia extract is only 5% or less of the overall contents).
So, as I have shared this type of info over the years
people asked me,
“So, why are you participating in
the Certified Organic program if you feel it is corrupt?”
My answer THEN was,
“Because we ARE growing and packaging our products according to TRUE ethical organic standards,
like what the average person would assume
truly organic foods would be grown in accordance with.”
NOW however, things have become
too much to swallow for a few reasons.
When we first became Certified Organic 20 years ago
each province in Canada oversaw the regulations
for their own province.
The standards were far superior then. IMHO
Then the big boys wanted more standardization
so products could be sold
inter-provincially and internationally.
Seems logical at first,
in fact it just means more “centralized control”.
So sometime in the last 15 or so years the regulations
came under the federal government’s jurisdiction,
thus the Canadian Organic Regime was born
and the quality of the standards were severely reduced
to supposedly match the US and the EU standards.
The name, …REGIME says it all!!!
Fast forward,
2019 the big boys have influenced the standards so much that we were informed
that we could only sell our products in powder form.
Immediately our business was cut in half!
2025, lo and behold who knew
that an American president
would reduce our remaining business
by half again with his tariff policy towards Canadians, which actually was and is a
huge financial and freedom-of-choice hit
for his own people!! IMHO
Suffice it to say that I am fed up
with all the government interference on many fronts.
As I pondered once again this spring
having to pay the exorbitant fees for organic certification
I took pause and weighed the pros and cons of the situation.
Quite honestly since the government(s) have done such a great job at destroying small business in this country
I saw no reason to line their coffers this year
with our participation in their great SCAM(S)
(In MY HUMBLE OPINION)
called Organic Certification.
Rest assured that in 2026 and beyond
we ARE still growing and packaging
our amazing products to HIGHER standards
than organic certification standards required
as we always have!!!
Just to bring you up to speed a bit more
any products grown and packaged on our farm
while under certification
as in 2025 or before
will still have the certification logo & info on the labels.
Any products we produce
in 2026 and moving forward
will NOT have the organic logo.
The same great products grown and handled
the way we always have,
but without the government’s expensive, twisted blessing.
We trust that the majority of our customers
have enjoyed our quality products
& a personal relationship with us
over the years
and that this turn of events
is of little consequence in the bigger picture
moving forward.
